Wake Forest
Cindy Alford Vestal passed away in her sleep after a long battle with a neurological disease on Monday, November 14, 2016. She is the daughter of Bobby Alford and Linda Alford Port. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by infant daughter, Casey Elise. She is survived by her husband, John; son, Charlie; dad, Robert (RL) Port of Hemingway, SC; sister, Kimberley Alford Radwick and husband, Scott, and niece, Caroline Michelle Radwick of Marietta, GA; brother, William Port and wife, Nichole, nieces, Leea AdriAnna Port and Riley LeeAnn Port, and nephew, Carson RL Port of Fort Benning GA; in laws, Donald and Mary Lynn Vestal, Tammy Poindexter and husband, Joel, and nieces, Bailey Louise Poindexter and Henley Lynn Poindexter; and by a number of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Cindy's life was filled with her two loves, softball/baseball and God's love. She played baseball/softball from her early years, and that love culminated with her play at Francis Marion University where she led them in three of her four years to the College World Series, and is in the FMU Sports Hall of Fame. Her love of the game has been instilled in Charlie as he has played baseball since he was 4 years old.
Cindy's next love filled her post FMU life as she had various ministry positions while she pursued and received her Master of Divinity from Gardner-Webb University. Her ministry included starting the Kingdom Builders ministry with other student ministers, various ministries in Georgia and South Carolina, several years of ministry in First Baptist Church Boone, NC, and finally to Greystone Baptist Church where she worked until her health would not allow her to continue. Even after she left Greystone, she stayed involved with "her students" as much as her health would allow. She is now free from her disease and in God's tender care with those who have died before her.
Cindy's funeral will be at Greystone Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. Cindy requested that people coming to the service wear mission trip t-shirts and jeans, not formal attire. There will be a cookout and games after the service for all.
In lieu of flowers, please send gifts to the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of North Carolina College Ministry fund.
