Constance Colleen Mills Mahan, of Chapel Hill, passed away in a car accident on Aug 25, 2016 at age 61. Born in Tyler, Texas, Connie was the daughter of Joan Kilner Mills and Hugh Russell Mills.

Connie Mahan was Associate Director of Communications at PlayMakers Repertory Company, UNC Chapel Hill.

After legal and marketing careers at ARA Automotive Group in Dallas, TX, (1980-1990), Emergency Network (1990-1992), and New Market Capitol Advisors (1993-1997), Connie followed her true passion, the theater arts, starting at the Dallas Theater Center where she was Associate Director of Communications (1997-2001).

Connie moved to NC in 2001 as part of the founding senior staff of Triad Stage in Greensboro, NC, and created the role of Marketing & Communications Director. In 2007, Connie joined PlayMakers Repertory Company at UNC Chapel Hill as Director of Marketing and Communications.

Connie loved the theater and cinema, especially British theater and cinema. She was a board member for the North Carolina Theater Conference in the years 2005-2011. She worked on staff at the Sundance Film Festival, was on the boards of the Shakespeare Festival of Dallas and USA Film Festival. She worked with numerous organizations such as Arts & Letters Live, the Dallas Museum of Art, ARTFest, ARTexas International, and UNCG's Weatherspoon Art Museum.

She was an active member of the Junior League, of her book club, and loved to travel and to read. She is remembered by colleagues, friends and family for her devotion, responsibility, wit, humor, dependability, hard work, practicality and kindness. She is loved and will be deeply missed by family, a large group of friends and colleagues, and the theater community of North Carolina.

Connie received her B.S. from the University of Texas at Austin in 1972 where she was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority and served as secretary, and her Juris Doctor from Southern Methodist University Law School in 1979 in Dallas where she was a member of the Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity. She also studied at the SMU Center for Arts, Marketing and Communications, Duke Communications Program and Oxford University.

Connie is survived by her sister, Christine Joan Mills, of Austin, TX, an aunt and uncle, and numerous cousins.

Memorial donations may be directed to PlayMakers Repertory Company, Triad Stage, your PBS station, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, or Duke University Chapel.

A Memorial Service will be held at PlayMakers Repertory from 6-7PM on Monday, October 24, with the doors opening at 5:30. Kenyan Theater, UNC Chapel Hill, 250 Country Club Road, Chapel Hill, NC.
