Daniel Scott Barnes, age 22, died Saturday, March 5, 2011.
A celebration of his life will be conducted at White Oak Hill FWB Church on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at 2:30 P.M. with the Rev. Reuben Cason and Associate Pastor Timothy Deans officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Roscoe Howard Barnes and Vernie M. and Nellie Tant Bissette.
Daniel was a very kind hearted person who never met a stranger. He loved life to the fullest, never having met an enemy. He loved all sports and enjoyed the outdoors. He had a contagious smile that would light up a room, and was always willing to help anyone and treasured his family, every day.
He is survived by his parents, Scott Allen and Jean Bissette Barnes of Bailey, his paternal grandmother, Effie Williams Barnes of Wilson, and his beloved brother, Michael Allen Barnes of Wilmington.
Memorials may be directed to White Oak FWB Church's special needs program.
The family will receive friends at Shingleton Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. and other times at the home of his parents.

I just heard about Daniels passing, although I didn’t know him I do know of his heritage. He was sure a fine man. Scott, I know your heart is broken, and I’m sorry that I wasn’t able to be there to offer you my condolences in person.

May God grant you the strength to get through this difficult time. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. I will always remember Daniel as the joyful, playful young man that he was. I enjoyed teaching him and having him as a lab assistant at SNHS.

There is no doubt that Daniel Barnes was loved and appreciated. Remembered for his warm and pleasant personality, Daniel Barnes represented life with integrity, wit, and self-determination. As a teacher, mentor, friend, and college golf coach--indeed, I cherish all those memories!
