David William Rapp, 81, passed away November 23, 2011 in Houston, Texas. He was born October 5, 1930 to the late Marvin D. and Dolores Frazier Rapp in Elkart, Indiana and is preceded in death by his brother, Harold B. Rapp.
Mr. Rapp was educated in North Kansas City Missouri Public Schools and received his undergraduate and Master's Degrees in Geological Sciences from the University of Missouri, Columbia. As a student, he was a member and served as chapter president of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. He was a decorated veteran of the Korean War, receiving a Bronze Star while serving as a First Lieutenant of the Second Division United States Army. Mr. Rapp's professional career as an Exploration Geologist spanned more than 40 years during which time he was employed with Standard Oil Company of California, Monsanto Company, Rutherford Oil Company and Huffington Oil Company before opening his own consulting firm. In addition to serving on the University of Missouri Geology Development Board and volunteering with Edith Moore Nature Center and Sherwood Elementary School, he enjoyed traveling, genealogy, crossword puzzles and cheering for his beloved New York Yankees.
Mr. Rapp is survived by his wife of 56 years, Margaret Boney Rapp; daughter, Anne Rapp Shambley and husband, Clay of Cary, NC; son, Bill Rapp of San Diego, CA; and grandsons, Will Shambley, David Shambley and Grant Shambley.
The family will hold a private memorial service at a future date.
