Dewey Overman Obituary
Penhook, VA
Dewey Benton Overman II, 75, of Penhook passed away Saturday, June 30, 2018.
Dewey was born in Wilson, NC. He was a graduate of N.C. State University. Dewey was an Eagle Scout and was a member of The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and The Raleigh Engineers Club. Dewey was an Amateur Radio Advanced Class licensee, a member of the National Genealogical Society and the North Carolina Genealogical Society. He was an outstanding coach of youth baseball and soccer. Dewey loved music and enjoyed surf fishing on the North Carolina Coast. He was a Navy veteran serving from 1960-1963. Dewey retired as manager of Telecommunications Engineering for Carolina Power and Light Company.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Dewey Benton Overman and Margaret Pierce Overman, and a son; Dewey Benton Overman III.
Surviving are his wife of 29 years. Bonnie J. Overman, sons and daughters-in-law, Warren Boyd Overman (Amy), Jeremy Parks Overman, Michael Paul Shumake (Stacey) Christopher Vance Shumake (Katie), grandchildren; Hayes Fuller Overman, Ellis Catherine Overman, Evelyn Christine Romenger, Cash Nelson Overman, Henry Parker Shumake, Alice Margaret Shumake, sister and brother-in-law; Glenda Patterson (Donnie), and a nephew; Braxton Thomas Patterson (Cara) and a host of extended family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at Penhook United Methodist Church: 29 Morgan's Fork Road, Penhook VA, 24137 on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Byung Chul Sung officiating.
