Dexter Williams Obituary

Dexter Len Williams

April 12, 1957 - July 9, 2024

Bullock, North Carolina - Dexter Len Williams, 67, of Bullock, North Carolina, passed away on July 9th, 2024, at his home. He was born on April 12th, 1957, in Raleigh, North Carolina to Leonard Thomas and Janice Corine Williams. Dexter grew up in the Friendship Baptist Church in Raleigh and was a 1975 graduate of Wake Christian Academy. He then attended Louisburg College and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, receiving his college degree in Political Science from the University of North Carolina.

Upon graduation, he worked at a series of jobs for the North Carolina Department of Corrections and the City-County Bureau of Identification (CCBI), before becoming a Wake County magistrate, and ultimately, Chief Magistrate of Wake County. In 2018, Dexter was proud to be awarded, by the Governor of North Carolina, the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, Ambassador Extraordinary, the highest honor awarded to persons who have made significant contributions to the state and their communities. Earlier in his career, Dexter managed several animal clinics, one of which is where he met his wife, Mary Linda Calley.

In addition to his career, Dexter greatly enjoyed fishing, hunting, sports events, the bi-weekly poker game with the Rawhide Club, extended family gatherings at the beach, and being home on the farm with his wife Mary. His dogs were very important to him, and he was actively involved and was on the Board with his local Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) and involved with the Australian Cattle Dog Rescue. He is remembered as a gentle jokester with lots of love and a sincere wish for the success of others, whether it was for a co-worker, a friend, or a family member. In lieu of flowers, if you would like to donate in Dexter's name, please select an animal rescue group of your choice.

Dexter is survived by his wife of 32 years, Mary Linda Calley, as well as sister Tammie Williams Bailey, and numerous nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog Quigley and the other farm dogs.

There will be a special court session held in honor of Dexter at the Wake County Courthouse in Raleigh, Room 101 on Friday, August 9th, 2024, at 1 p.m. This is a public event that is open for anyone who would like to attend.

Ckyde cooper's BBQ Raleigh

July 29, 2024

He was such a sincere human, we all loved him at Clyde Cooper's BBQ. Everybody knew him or of him and always a good time was had by all at the restaurant. Folks would introduced themselves to him and he was always accepting of them interrupting the party going on at his table. He was sweet & funny. He was like family and we will sincerely miss him.

I have such fond memories of Dexter. He made me feel at home. He was so much fun to be around. He always made me and the kids laugh. Trips to Topsail with "Uncle" Dexter were so much fun. I am so sorry for his sudden loss. Big hugs to Mary.
