Doris B Harrison
March 11, 1929 - December 6, 2021
Cary, North Carolina - Doris Harrison passed away peacefully in Cary, North Carolina but lives on in the hearts and prayers of all those whose lives she touched and who love her dearly. Doris Harrison was born on March 11, 1929, shortly after her parents, Archibald and Annie Campbell, emigrated from Wick, Scotland to Long Island, NY. She spent her early childhood in Yaphank, Long Island. She started school at age 4. She would wait at the school gate every day to ask the teacher if she could start school. When she proved to the teacher that she could already read, the teacher permitted her to attend on a full-time basis. She excelled in school and ultimately graduated from Syracuse University in 1949. It was there that she met her husband, Charles Harrison, a dashing Naval Lieutenant working with Sears Roebuck in the managerial training program.
Dorrie and Charlie raised 3 children in Cherry Hill, NJ. The Harrisons were a skiing family. Dorrie was a passionate skier until 2 fractured legs caused her to trade her alpine for cross country skis. Dorrie continued to participate in the family ski trips, however, by making regular appearances at the base lodge with her signature "HOT" ham and cheese sandwiches. In 1974, the family moved to Annapolis, MD. After raising her children, she worked as an office manager for Deck House, Inc, from 1976 to 1996.
Dorrie and Charlie enjoyed cross -country skiing in upstate New York and in Whitefish, MT, where her son, Craig, lives. She was active in PEO and was a Sisterhood Chapter President in Annapolis. She was an excellent cook and her specialties included crab imperial and coconut cream pie. She was an active member and Director of the School of Faith at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Cherry Hill, NJ. In Annapolis, she was an active member of the Calvary United Methodist Church.
She and Charlie moved to Cary, NC in 2011, to be closer to their daughter, Nancy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Harrison. She is survived by her sister Ruby Cook of Sarasota, Florida; her children: son and daughter-in-law Craig Harrison, MD and Robin A. Harrison, MD of Kalispell, MT and grandchildren Andrew, Cody and Brett; son David C. Harrison, Capt. USN (retired) and daughter-in-law Anne Harrison of Carlsbad, California and grandchildren Charlie, Laurel and Courtney; daughter and son-in-law Nancy L. O'Connell, DDS and Daniel J.
