On June 30, 1950 she married Richard Franklin Snavely who pre-deceased her in 1997. She has resided in Raleigh for over 50 years. Dot was an elementary school teacher or aid until her retirement in 1985. She spent many long hours on lesson plans and assisting students who needed extra help. As a charter member of St. Paul’s Christian Church she served for many years as a kindergarten teacher, Sunday school teacher and deaconess. She also enjoyed volunteering on the costume crews at the Raleigh Little Theatre, assisting her husband Dick in magic shows, and hosting Magic Club meetings. In addition to her husband she was pre-deceased by her parents, Anna and Ernest Manspeaker. She is survived by sisters Helen Wilson, Ramona Schell and Joan Staubs of Martinsburg WV, and sister Norma Pappada of Niles, OH. She is also survived by her son Keith Snavely and daughter-in-law Laura Rodriguez Castro, daughter Colleen Snavely and son- in- law Michael Pike, grandchildren Aaron and Courtney Pike, and many nieces and nephews. The family expresses their thanks to her fellow parishioners at St. Paul’s for their concern. We are grateful for the compassionate care she received at Mayview, Rex Hospital and Sunrise at North Hills. Services will be held on Monday, September 14, 2009 at 11AM at St. Pauls Christian Church, 3331 Blue Ridge Road, Raleigh with Rev. Phil Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park. Dot was a lovely lady of high integrity. I deeply admired her gentle loving ways. She was a very inclusive person who displayed acceptance of all God's children. I extend comforting thoughts and prayers to the family.

I met Dorothy but a time or two, but each meeting was a sweet pleasure. I well remember her husband, UNC-TV television director Dick Snavely, who leaves me -- and I'm sure many others -- with many pleasant and amusing memories.
