Douglas Bell Obituary

Dr. Kevin Bell

Kevin was a loving husband, father, and devoted man of God. He founded Wake Forest Family Eye Care, and faithfully served the community for 26 years. He loved Wakefield Baptist Church and served from the first Sunday in many roles including deacon and Sunday School Teacher.
Kevin found great joy participating in mission trips with the Eye Care Team ministering to those in need, and generously giving his time leading youth sports. Most importantly Kevin showed us how to live each day by faith in Jesus Christ.

Dr. Bell is survived by his wife, Melanie; his children, Lauren, Emily, Martin and Matthew; his parents, Douglas and Lucille Bell of Charlotte; sisters, LuAnn Christy and husband, Mark of Reidsville and Allison Jenkins and husband, Gary of Kernersville; brother, Jeff Bell and wife Gwyn of Wake Forest; and numerous extended family members.

Not sure what to say?

March 8, 2012

Today March 8 2012 I learnt of the death of my friend and brother from another mother Dr. Kevin Bell. We the Okwakol family will not forget how you became our angel while in your country. Our first thanksgiving in America in 1998 was in your house. We do not remember how many more times after that we shared with you. Till the time we left in 2006 you were ordained by God to minister to the health of our eyes. Your desire was that we return to serve in our country. That we did and are now providing leadership as Senior Pastor of Agape Baptist Church in Kampala, Uganda. Have served as President of the Baptist Union of Uganda for the last five years and now President of All Africa Baptist Fellowship and started a ministry organization to help churches, train leaders and help student and orphaned and disadvantaged children with fees and other needs.
Dr Bell you are one of those who made our stay in America lovely. I believe God will reward you for you kindness to students and especially you heart to help even "strangers." To Mellanie you are a special lady. Thanks for supporting your husband's heart which I am sure is yours too. I am hoping that I get back to Wake Forest and give you a hug but meanwhile I am asking our Father who Art in Heaven to hug you for us. His hug is the real one! With love and prayer will continue to lift you, the family and relatives to our Lord of peace to give you peace that passes all understanding.
Dr. Michael Okwakol, Kampala Uganda

Dr. Bell has been my eye MD for nearly 30 years. We first connected at his Bunn office. I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I will always miss his smile and concern for others. I will continue to keep you and your family in my prayers. We loved him here; but God loved him best.

I grew up at Pritchard Memorial Baptist with Kevin. We had such a wonderful youth program then and Kevin was a fun part of our group. I never knew his wife but I wish you comfort in knowing how many lives he touched and the caring man he was. My love to Doug and Lucille Bell who I also grew up knowing. My grandparents were Bill and LaVerne Harris.

My thoughts and prayers are with you. May God comfort each of you and you find comfort in the fond memories. Dr. Bell was my eye doctor ever since he worked with Dr. Holland in Louisburg. He was a very special person who always asked how my family was and would talk about his family. He was a very caring and compassionate person. A great servant for the Lord. He will truly be missed by all who had the pleasure to know him.

Melanie, I remember Kevin when he came to work at Dr. Ed Holland's office in Louisburg. He was one of my favorite doctors to work with. He played some softball with us for a few years before he moved on to Wake Forest. Stay strong, sincerely Phil and Donna Driver

Dr. Kevin Bell was my optometrist. I am saddened for his family's loss. He was a very sincere, kind and compassionate man. I was touched by the way he treated me as a patient and friend. I was so sorry to learn of Dr. Bell's death. I was a patient of his and will miss seeing him each year. He was a blessing to all that have had the privilege of knowing him. I have always enjoyed going to the office due to the caring Christian atmosphere that has always existed there. We would always talk about our children. It was always very evident how much he loved the Lord, his wife and children. You will all continue to be in my prayers.

Mr. and Mrs. Bell,

You do not know me but I have been blessed to know Mark and LuAnn for many years now. I just wanted to let you know I have been praying for your whole family and you in particular. I cannot imagine how hard it is to lose a child. Even though he was grown he was still your child. Know that there are loving thoughts and prayers being sent Heavenward by people you don't even know.

I was so saddened to hear of Kevin's passing when Rick Francz called to tell me. We would like to extend our heartfelt sympathies and prayers for you, Melanie, and the children. May your spirit be touched by the love that surrounds you. Kevin will be missed by all of us on Ayers Mountain.

September 12, 2011

Mother just called with news of Kevin's bout with cancer and his passing. Hard to believe and tough accepting because it's been so long since we talked or had any contact with each other - we were best friends as kids for several summers while growing up around our lake/house in Black Mt. Remember most vividly, the time we were caught skinny-dipping in that little concrete pond. So long ago, but all flooding back. Sad. Condolences to all the family/many friends.

A sense of humor I always enjoyed. Melanie, you and Kevin made Sheila and my move to Wake Forest so enjoyable. Our times together, especially our New Year's Eve together, are certainly among the highlights of our time in Wake Forest and Wakefield Baptist Church. Kevin helped me so much during a time of trial, I will never forget him.
