Easter Lamm Obituary

Easter Murray Holdford Lamm, 96, of the Parkwood Assisted Living Facility in Wilson died Monday January 16, 2006. Easter was born in Nash County on August 12, 1909 and spent her early years in Middlesex and Samaria. Her father was Charles Murray and her mother was Evelyn Cone Murray, both natives of NashCounty. Easter attended grammar and high schools in Nash County and Business College in Wilson. She was married to Roy R. Holdford, who died in 1959. They had four children, Mary Elizabeth Holdford Narron, Roy R. Holdford, Jr., William H. Holdford andJames Edward Holdford. William H. Holdford is the only child who survived her. After a lengthy widowhood, Easter married W. Bruce Lamm, who also predeceased her.
In addition to her son, William H. Holdford and his wife, Elaine F. Marshall of Wilson and Raleigh, her survivors: her 11 grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Narron Lewey and her husband, Steve Lewey of Greensboro, Michael James Narron of Black Creek, Susan Narron Bevacqua and her husband, Tim of Raleigh, David Newsome Narron and his wife, Bonnie of Wilmington, Frances Holdford Goodman and her husband, Hill of Wilmington, Roy R. Holdford, Ill and his wife Gina,of Wilmington, Barbara Anne Holdford Montague of Marietta, GA, Julia R. Holdford Wheatley of Bridgewater, VA, Andrea C. Holdford VanGieson of Raleigh, Elizabeth Holdford Smith and her husband, George of Raleigh, and Anne Harvey Holdford Smith and her husband, Bill of Raleigh. She was also survived by 13 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Suzanne Daughtridge Holdford of Wilson.
Easter was actively engaged with her family, in her church and in her community throughout her life. She worked as a cafeteria manager in the Wilson School system for many years then worked with her son-in-law, Talmadge L. Narron and her two sons, Ray and Bill, in their law practice. She enjoyed years of service in the Business and Professional Women's Club and in the garden department of the Wilson Woman's Club. She delighted in growing roses, working in her yard, playing bingo, investing in the stock market, visiting with friends and helping her family in all ways possible. At age 86 she received a certificate from governor James B. Hunt, Jr. for 70 years of ticket free safe driving. She continued to drive until weeks before herdeath. At age 91 she was named volunteer Gray Lady of the year at Wilson Memorial Hospital. She played bridge with friends several times weekly. She loved to travel and had traveled extensively in the states and on five other continents. She had an adventurous spirit and boated with her son, Bill on Bogue Sound and with her grandsons, Mike and David, in the ICW in her late 80's. She never spoke an unkind work abut anyone.
Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church. Dr. Doug Murray will officiate. Burial will follow in the Holdford family plot in Maplewood Cemetery.
