Edward Corey Obituary

Edward Corey
October 16, 1939 - January 25, 2021
Clayton, North Carolina - Edward "Ed" Corey passed away on the morning of January 25, 2021 at UNC-Johnston Healthcare after suffering a cardiac arrest while being treated for COVID-19. Ed was born on in October 1939 in New Kensington, PA, and grew up in Ambridge, PA, as one of five children of hard-working parents.
Following high school graduation, Ed served his country by joining the US Army as a member of the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, stationed in Germany, from 1958 to 1961. Following his service in the Army he attended college briefly before relocating to Schenectady, New York to start his career in the travel industry. He started Career Advisors, an executive recruiting firm, in the late 1960's with two partners in Schenectady and later moved the firm to Albany. He remained with Career Advisors until he opened his own recruiting firm, Corey Associates, in 1977.
Ed and his wife Randi relocated to Raleigh, NC in 1996. Ed loved living in North Carolina. The only things he missed from upstate New York were his beloved daughters, Saratoga Race Track and Lake George. He retired from recruiting in 2004.
Ed enjoyed sports, especially coaching his recreational basketball team "Corey Associates" in the 1980s and was a lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins fan. Ed also enjoyed cooking shows and became a master chef in the kitchen. Since his wife worked for several non-profit health agencies during their marriage he became a tremendous volunteer for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the March of Dimes and the Hydrocephalus Association.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Randi Hulbert Corey, his daughters Lisa Crounse (Michael), Kristin Eidens (Michael), granddaughter Allison, his sister Meriam Phillips, and his brother Bill Corey. He was preceded in death by his brother George R. Corey of San Mateo, CA and his sister Athena (Tina) Szafaryn of Long Beach, CA.
Funeral services are private, and a public memorial will be held in Schenectady at a later date. Donations may be made in Ed's name to the Hydrocephalus Association, 4340 East West Highway, Suite 905, Bethesda, MD 20814 or the charity of one's choice.
