Edward Edmundson Obituary

Edward "Ed" Stanley Edmundson, Jr., 81, died with peace and dignity, Wednesday, April 25, 2001 at his home.
He was born in Smithfield, NC, August 20, 1919, the son of Edward Stanley Edmundson, Sr. and Margaret Myatt Edmundson. Ed was educated at Smithfield City schools and N.C. State University. He served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII as a fighter navigator in the Pacific. Among the medals he received was the Distinguished Flying Cross.
He was a member of Brownson Memorial Presbyterian Church of Southern Pines and a charter member of White Memorial Presbyterian Church, Raleigh, NC. In addition, he was a past member of the B.P.O.E. of Southern Pines.
His many interests included gardening and duplicate bridge, having attained the American contract Bridge Leage (ACBL) rank of SilverLife Master.
Following a private burial, a Memorial Service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, April 28, 2001 at The Chapel at Brownson.
He was predeceased by his parents, and sisters, Mrs. Mildred Honeycutt of Louisville, KY and Mrs. Jennie Scott Mackenzie of Greensboro, NC.
Survivors include his wife, Betsy B. Edmundson, his two sons, Edward Stanley Edmundson, III and wife, Ann and Warner Lee Wells Edmundson, M.D. and wife, Jan, all of Raleigh. Grandchildren include, Karen Edmundson, Kristin Edmundson, Erin Edmundson and Brian Edmundson; stepdaughter, Elizabeth H. Strickland and husband, Bill; step-grandchildren include, Caroline and Brian Strickland; stepson, Morris W. Hitson, Jr.; sister, Margaret E. Kilgore of Raleigh; brother-in-law, Dr. Charles H. Bowman of Fayetteville and many devoted nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to FirstHealth Hospice, P.O. Box 1956, Pinehurst, NC 28370.
Powell Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family.
