Eldred Quast
September 21, 1918 - February 8, 2012
Clayton
Eldred 'Al' Quast, 93, passed away Wednesday, February 8th at Rex Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center on Lake Boone Trail in Raleigh, NC.
Eldred was born in Wisconsin in 1918, to the late Oscar E. Quast and Sarah Q. Quast. He was preceeded in death by his parents and his sister, Eva Quast Geipel.
After serving his country proudly and meritoriously during WW2 in the Army Air Corp, he returned to Wisconsin and operated a commercial construction business. Eventually he settled his family in Clayton, NC. There he built the town's first inn, The Johnstonian Motel, which he and his wife Merle, operated successfully for about 40 years. Various buildings and churches in and around Clayton also bear his handiwork as a skilled mason contractor.
All who knew Al Quast would recognize his unwavering honesty, his strong work ethic, his reliability in all to which he committed himself, and his drive to help his fellow man. His passing is a true loss.

So sad to hear of Al's passing. He was a good man and had a good run. I enjoyed his storytelling and I'm proud to have known him. My thoughts are with you.
