Elsayed Morsi Afify died on May 8, 2013, at home in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Elsayed was born in Alexandria Egypt on March 10,1928, son of Morsi and Negeya Afify. He graduated with a Master of Science degree from the School of Engineering in Alexandria Egypt, and subsequently received a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor Michigan.
Elsayed returned to Egypt to briefly work as a Professor in the School of Engineering in Alexandria Egypt before embarking on an esteemed 37 year career as a professor at North Carolina State University. It was here that his students recognized him with best professor of the year accolades. He enjoyed working in his Mechanical Engineering Lab where he applied his ingenious creative problem solving capabilities to nurture his graduate students. His academic prowess was only superceded by his kind and gentle demeanor that was appreciated by all who knew him.
Elsayed is survived by his wife of 58 years, Omayma; two daughters and one son: Maha and husband Ford of Raleigh, NC, Manal and husband Ammar of Raleigh, NC, Mohamed and wife Anita of North Topsail Beach, NC; 6 grandchildren: T Chambliss, Carr, Michael and wife Amber, Hannah, Laythe and Halah; He is survived by his sister Fikriya.
Elsayed will be buried on May 9, 2013 at 2:30 pm at Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh, NC. The family will receive visitors from 7 to 9 pm the evening of the 9th at the Afify family home, 5608 Crooked Stick Trail, Raleigh, NC. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be sent to Hospice of Wake County or to the American Cancer Society.
