Durham, North Carolina - Evelyn McAdams Miller passed away peacefully, with her family by her bedside, on November 19, 2021. What a wonderful life she lived. Born outside Hillsborough, NC on April 5, 1930, she grew up in a large loving family and was especially close to her siblings who passed away before her: Floyd McAdams, Lavarah Barber, Christine Allison, Claude McAdams, and Nelowee Banos. Their parents, Pattie and Claude McAdams, instilled the importance of family which became the guiding hallmark of Evelyn's life.
Evelyn met the love of her life, Guy Miller, when she was just 16 years old. She loved telling the story of how they met and how she knew he was "the one". Her children and grandchildren will cherish so many great memories of their Mom and MaMa, but none more than the way she shared her lifelong love affair with their Dad and PaPa, who passed away in 1993.
Among Evelyn's life passions, beyond her family (which was always her #1 priority), were Duke basketball (better not call when her Blue Devils were on TV), standing up for those she believed were mistreated (especially children or animals), and a good cup of coffee with a sweet dessert (day or night).
Evelyn is survived by her children, Cecelia Riley (Dan) of Sunset Beach, NC, Brenda Pedersen (John) of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Bryan Miller (Nancy) of Cary, NC, grandchildren (Lisa, Shaun, Jennifer, Kristyn), great grandchildren (Taylor, Sebastian, Iliana, Connor), great great grandchildren (Dakota, Masyn), plus many nephews, nieces, in-laws, and lifelong friends. Many of those friendships were developed during her 24 years of employment with Duke University Stores. This was also when Evelyn developed her deep affection for all things Duke.
Her family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the wonderful caregivers at Portside at Grande Dunes Assisted Living and Traditions Health Hospice. They were angels during the last 2 years of Evelyn's life on earth.
