December 29, 1936 - December 7, 2021
Knightdale, North Carolina - Fred M. Allen III, 84, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2021, in Knightdale, NC after battling a long illness. Fred was born on December 29, 1936, in Charlotte, NC. He was the eldest of two sons born to the late Fred M. Allen, Jr., and Lillian C. Siskron Allen. After graduating from Mercy High School, he enlisted in the US Navy. He served in the US Navy as an electrician and radar technician and loved the beauty and serenity of the open sea. He was in active duty for 2 years, inactive duty for 2 years and in the Reserves for 4 years. After his military service, he worked for JP Stevens as a Computer Systems Analyst at the beginning of the computer age. He received an Associate Degree in Business Administration and was the first in his family to graduate from college. Fred worked for the NC Department of Information Technology (DIT) as a computer systems analyst and retired after 24 years. He was a friend to many and an inspiration to all. Fred deeply loved and cared for his family and friends. He was a selfless, loving, honorable, supportive, kind, reliable, and dedicated father, and grandfather. He could fix anything and was always willing to lend a helping hand. In his retirement, he enjoyed participating in classic car shows. He restored his mother's 1975 Chevy Malibu Classic and won many awards. He loved the beauty of nature and was always positive and hopeful for the future. He remained brave, iron-willed, and optimistic even during his final months.
