Freda Ritchie Obituary

Freda Ritchie, 93, went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 7, 2008 at Rex Hospital.
Mrs. Ritchie lived in three countries, being born in Liverpool, England, raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and after World War II moved to Raleigh. An avid gardener, Mrs. Ritchie also enjoyed traveling, sewing and knitting. She did extensive volunteer work with many organizations including Meals on Wheels, Council on Aging and Hospitalized Veterans.
She was very active in church activities, which included studying the Bible and learning biblical history. Mrs. Ritchie was a very familiar face in the Hayes Barton community as the little lady with a blue hat and coat who walked everywhere she went.
She loved her family and friends and will be missed by all who had the opportunity to know her.
Surviving are: her son, Daniel Ritchie and wife, Nancy of Raleigh; daughters, Patricia Mitchell of Zebulon, Susan Tharp of Rocky Point; six grandchildren, Michael Ritchie, Debbie Edwards, Jennifer Mitchell, David Mitchell, Cathy Murray, Susan Holliday, Ginny Pendleton and Jill Casteen; eight great-grandchildren, Jack Wheeler, Anna Lia Ritchie, Connor Edwards, Aidan Edwards, Jessica Murray, Brittney Fairfax, Ashley Fairfax and Matthew Murray.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Ritchie and a granddaughter, Amy Mitchell.
A memorial service will be held 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Brown- Wynne Funeral Home, Saint Mary's Street.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7:00-8:00 p.m. prior to the service.

Pat, I was sorry to hear from your neighbor and my Aunt Inez Brown that your mother had passed away. She and my grandmother both lived a long full life of 93 years. Now may memories fill your mind daily of times shared with her.

Please accept my deepest sympathies.
I was a neighbor two doors up from Mrs. Ritchie and always enjoyed visiting with her and hearing about her days in Canada. I wish there were more people just like her. She was a very classy lady.
