Benson, NC: Mrs. Penny Dixon, age 87 of Cobb Road passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2026 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Graveside Funeral Services will be 1:00PM Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at Roselawn Cemetery in Benson. Officiating will be Rev. Donald Sadler. The family will receive friends following the graveside service and other times at the home of Michael and Sherry Dixon.
Mrs. Penny was born on November 20, 1938 in Johnston County to the late Floyd Grimes Hardee and Vada Langdon Hardee. She worked as an accountant for N.C. State University in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences for 38 years. After a brief retirement she went back to work as an accountant for PJ's Truck Bodies in Dunn for several more years. One of Mrs. Penny’s passions was cooking for her family and she was well known for her banana pudding. She also loved traveling with her husband, Kenneth on many cross-country bus trips. She treasured her friends and loved ones and enjoyed hosting Christmas dinners for many years. She was the anchor of her family and loved by everyone that knew her.
She is survived by her son, Michael Dixon and wife, Sherry; grandchildren, Tara and Kristin Dixon; great-grandchildren, Garrett, Olivia, Elijah, Ella, Charlee, Zayne, and Vallie; special nieces, Becky Williams and Debbie Eason; several other nieces and nephews and the special family of Ricky and Jerri-Lynn Carter.
The family would like to express sincere gratitude to her caregiver, Peggy Sue, nurse, Rodney and all the staff at Liberty Home and Hospice for their excellent care.
The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers during this time.
