Gaither Walser Obituary

Gaither Stokes Walser, age 67, of Lantern Lane, Lexington died Monday, January 8, 2001 at his home.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church conducted by Rev. Craven Ford. Private graveside and burial will be at Yadkin College Cemetery.
Mr. Walser was born in Davidson County on January 8, 1934 to Donald Adderton Walser and Margaret McNulty Walser. He was a graduate of Woodberry Forest School and received his undergraduate and Law Degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He did a postgraduate Course in Taxation at the New York University School of Law. He was a Phi Delta Phi Member and a Kappa Sigma member, member of the Board of Editors, North Carolina Law Review, 1958. He was a senior partner in the Brinkley Walser law firm in Lexington, and practiced in the area of Tax Law, Corporation Law, Real Estate Law, Estate Planning and Business Litigation. He was a member of the North Carolina Bar Association and served on the Committee on Taxation from 1959 to 1965. He was a member of the American Bar Association and had served on the committee on Income of Estates and Trust from 1968 to 1970. He was a member of the National Association of Railroad Trial Counsel.
Surviving are: spouse, Jeanne ""Toni"" Tomlin Walser of the home; sons, Vance Walser and wife, Joy of Lexington;daughters, Carolyn and husband Earl Johnson, III of Raleigh; stepson, Gill Mende and David Mende both of Atlanta, GA; stepdaughter, Cynthia King of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Earl Johnson, IV and Sydney Patterson Johnson, both of Raleigh; step-grandchildren, Kathleen King, Emma King, both of Columbia, SC and Katherine Mende of Atlanta, GA.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the home of his son, Vance Walser, 201 Country Club Dr.
Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association, NC Affiliate, 3109 Poplarwood Court, Suite 125, Raleigh, NC 27604.
Davidson Funeral Home is in chargeof arrangements.
