Ida Marie Atwood McBride

December 17, 1933 - March 30, 2025

Raleigh, North Carolina - Ida "Marie" Atwood McBride, 91 of Raleigh, North Carolina, passed away on Sunday the 30th of March.

Marie was born on December 17, 1933 in Ashe County, North Carolina to parents Coy and Reba Atwood, in a home built by her father on generational family land. Marie attended Jefferson High School in Ashe County before receiving a Bachelor's Degree in education and history from NC Wesleyan College and a graduate degree from NC State University.

She worked for the FBI in Washington, DC before settling back in North Carolina and working as a teacher, eventually working for the Department of Public Instruction. After her retirement from education, she volunteered with seniors in Wake County.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Coy and Reba Atwood, two sisters, Mary McNeill and Nancy Truelove, and 2 sons, Charles "Chuck" McBride and Randal McBride. She is survived by 4 nephews, Mark (Content) Truelove of Raleigh, James (Tina) Truelove of Apex, Phillip McNeill of Sugar Grove, and Jonathan (Amy) McNeill of Fleetwood, as well as several great nieces and nephews.

Graveside services are being held at Roan Creek Baptist Church Cemetery on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at 1 p.m. with speaker Lonnie Denny.
