Jack Crawley Obituary
July 20, 1944 - February 2, 2024
Raleigh, North Carolina - The Honorable Jack Benjamin Crawley Jr. of Raleigh passed away on February 2, 2024 surrounded by his family. He was born on July 20, 1944 to Jack and Virginia Crawley in Warren County, NC. He grew up in the Halifax County town of Hollister and graduated from Aurelian Springs High School before attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he obtained an undergraduate degree in English.
After graduating, he taught at William R. Davie School in Roanoke Rapids before continuing on to the UNC School of Law. He then began a legal career that included serving as one of the first two law clerks for U.S. District Judge F.T. Dupree Jr., as a prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney's Office in Raleigh, as a Special Superior Court Judge appointed by Gov. Jim Martin, and as an attorney in private practice.
While he was proud of his professional achievements, Jack's true joy in life was his family. He married his wife Peggy in 1973. Though they later divorced, they remained friends. He is also survived by his three sons: Tim (Stephanie), Ben, and Matt (Lisa) all of Raleigh, as well as three grandchildren: Sarah, Paige, and Miles. In addition, he is survived by his sister, Carolyn Hill (Tom) of Easton, PA and her children and grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Church of the Nativity, 8849 Ray Road, Raleigh. Memorial contributions may be made to the church in Jack's honor.

My late husband, Tom McNamara always spoke very highly of Jack. They went back to the days when Tom was the US Attorney for the eastern district of NC. He was a fine man, lawyer, and judge. I´m so sorry to see these wonderful people pass away. Tom died last July 23, 2023.
