James Wallace Betts

James Wallace Betts, 88 of Buies Creek died Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at WakeMed of Raleigh after a brief illness. A native of Harnett County, Mr. Betts was born on February 28, 1921, the son of James Tyson and Willie Norma Wallace Betts and was a graduate of Buies Creek High School and Campbell University. Mr. Betts was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church and was past president and member of the Buies Creek Lions Club. Mr. Betts taught at Buies Creek High School, was an accountant and avid gardener. He was a published author, poet and enjoyed reading and music throughout his lifetime. He was preceded in death by Mary Helen Dean Betts, his wife of 55 years. Memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 13, 2009 at Memorial Baptist Church, Buies Creek. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
