James Glover Obituary

Doctor James B. "Jimmy" Glover, 77, died at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte on December 20, 2008.
A memorial service will be 11:00 Tuesday a.m., St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, 202 N. Goldsboro Street, Wilson. Born in Wadesboro, NC on October 30, 1931, he was the son of the late James Allen and Mable Dabbs Glover. Jimmy was raised in Nashville, NC. He completed undergraduate and medical school at the University of North Carolina receiving his M.D in 1957. He served three years in the Navy as a medical officer, interned at the University of Alabama and completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at NC Memorial Hospital. He practiced for 30 years in Wilson, providing compassionate care for his patients.
He was always delighted to be greeted by former patients and often to be introduced to their children, babies he had delivered now grown to adulthood. He enjoyed all children, especially his own five grandchildren, who called him Doc, as did his own two sons. Doc was a devoted father, grandfather and husband.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Harriet; his two sons and their wives, Jimmy and Tina, and John and Sallie both of Raleigh; and his five grandchildren, Sallie, Jack, Anderson, Lucy and Ella; sisters, Pat Glover of Greensboro and Linda Hunter and husband, Tom of Charlotte; a nephew and a niece.
Doc was an avid UNC basketball fan, rarely missing a home game for more than 40 years. Golf was another favorite sport. He was happiest at his home on the Bogue Sound, spending 30 wonderful summers there with his family. He recognized how blessed he had been in his 77 years. His wonderful dry with could end any tense situation, leaving everybody laughing. We will all miss his steady wisdom and the kindness of a caring physician, friend, father and grandfather.
The family will be at home, 1003 Salem Street.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 1527, Wilson, NC 27894.

I was so sorry to hear of your loss. The thoughts of many are with you at this time of sorrow. I worked as a nurse at Wilson Memorial Hospital in the 80's. Being a new grad working on 2E was not an easy task. But Dr. Glover was always so kind and easy to work with. He was also such a great physician when I had my sons. I have fond memories of him and Dr. Kirkland. I have thought of them often over the years.

Our hearts are broken over the loss of Dr. Glover. He was such a wonderful man and we will miss him very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time. My boys Jack and Hampton will never forget his thoughtfulness and kindness at giving them the wonderful seats to the Red Sox game this past summer when he was not unable to make his annual trip to Boston. May he rest in peace. Much love, Bettine Bikle Boyd and family

Doc was an inspiration to me. He loved the game of golf as I do and I was fortunate have played golf with him at a very early age. He had a way about him unlike any other person I've ever met. My prayers are with his Family during this time.

Morehead City, Bogue Sound, Sunset Drive, 4th of July, fireworks, boating, working on the pier, fishing, good conversations and laughter. It just won't be the same without Doc. My children always said that Doc was "Cool"!
Heaven just got the best of the best!
