Jane Jackson Obituary
January 24, 1946 - July 26, 2021
New Market, Maryland - Jane Ann McMillan Jackson of Lake Junaluska, North Carolina and New Market, Maryland passed away on July 26, 2021, at home, with her husband of 53 years by her side, after an 11 year battle with early-onset Alzheimer's Dementia. Jane was born in Raleigh, NC on January 24, 1946 to the late Allan and Margaret McMillan. She graduated from Cary High School, The University of North Carolina at Greensboro and The University of South Carolina. Jane was a high school teacher in Santa Maria, CA; East Point, GA; and Richmond, VA before becoming a loving, full-time mother and active community and church volunteer. After receiving a Masters Degree from USC, she became an adjunct professor at The University of South Carolina before moving to Cary, teaching at Garner and finally at Cary High School, her alma mater. When shopping she was often greeted by former students. She was a spontaneous, energetic, and enthusiastic ESFP Myers Briggs Type, very different than her INTJ husband. Jane and Alan met through summer employment, but only started dating after she loaned him two cents for a parking meter on his last day of employment. Alan repaid her three cents via a letter mailed to the office. Jane wrote back. Life was never boring around Jane. She was always working on a project and eager to travel. Jane Ann is survived by her husband, Alan N. Jackson; their son John Carlton Jackson, his wife Ruth Houlihan and grandchildren Cathal, Ruadhán and Donagh of Cobh, County Cork, Ireland; their daughter Rachel Ann Belanger, her husband, Adam and grandchildren Elise, Nathalie and Gerrit of New Market, MD; and brother John McMillan of Pineville, NC.
Alan wishes to especially thank Dr. Martin van Cleeff of Cary, Dr. James P. Weaver of Asheville and Dr. Lisa Verges of Memory Care for their wisdom and guidance during Jane's illness.
Cremation was by Going Home Cremation & Funeral Care of Woodbine, MD.
The family plans to hold a memorial service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Memory Care, 100 Far Horizon Lane, Asheville NC 28803.

Former student from Cary High School. Mrs. Jackson and Mrs. Thacker were always together. I was both of their TA's for a semester in 2006.
