Dr. Joel Dascal passed away on March 8 with his wife and 3 sons by his side. His funeral was the same day at The Hebrew Cemetery in Charlotte.

Joel was the son of immigrants from Europe and was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. Joel went to medical school in Switzerland where he met his wife and life long love Briggitta.

Joel had a long career as an Emergency Room physician and was in the country's first class of ER specialty accredited physicians. Joel cared for and treated our country's veterans in the Emergency Room at Fort Bragg for over 20 years. He also supported the community by training Fort Bragg's emergency responders in acute cardiac life support techniques.

Joel is survived by his wife of 50 years Briggitta and their 3 sons Emmanuel, David and Michael.

Joel was a true Renaissance man – black belt in karate, natural linguist, avid student of yoga, meditation, world history and anatomy. Joel loved nature walks, classical and jazz music, and long relaxing dinners at home with family and friends. Long before it was en vogue, Joel was an exercise enthusiast and always health food conscious. But above all else, Joel was a family man who chose to spend his time with his wife and children. The times spent advising his children on their career path, playing tennis and aikido, tutoring them in school and being ever-present and supportive will be remembered and serve as a model to his kids and grandkids.
