Dr. Gamble was an authentic personality and true statesman. When he served in the General Assembly I enjoyed those times when I got to work with him, even when he did not support my client's position. What a gentleman. And I was so pleased that we continued to stay in contact via email up until last year. I share his family's sense of loss. May he rest in peace.

I, too, worked at the Legislature when Dr. Gamble served in the House. He was a great representative and didn't mind standing up for what he believed in. We need more public servants like him today.

It was my good fortune to serve with Dr. Gamble for many years during my service in the NC House from l984-2004. Often, we were on opposite sides of political issues of the moment. But there were other 'moments'
I remember during of joint tenure that
I will long treasure.
One of the collateral benefits of his
presence there, for me and many members, was not only his medical knowledge, which he gladly proffered
at explicitly pro bono rates,
(specifically, something to help a
headache--of which there were many
in that venue!). And, his great sense of history that we shared across the
political divide. He loved Lincoln county and North Carolina and serving
the people of our great state.
Dr. Gamble loved to read. He quickly learned of my love of history, words, writing and human interest stories. One day he came to me,
a member of the 'other' party, on the floor of the house with a book in his hand and said, "Steve, I thought about you when I was reading this book. Take it, take your time, read it, and when you get through with it, let's sit
down and talk. I'd like to know your thoughts about it."
It was a humbling, uplifting and instructive moment for me, someone who was nearly 30 years his junior and who sat on the other side of the proverbial political aisle. First, that
I had any connection in the thoughts of
such a great public servant. Secondly,
it was a refreshing recess from the political divisivenss of our day.
Thirdly, he was even remotely interested in my
thoughts about anything!
Politics come and go but men like Dr. John Gamble are few and far between.
The historical, political and providential convergence of our
pilgrimmages on this planet will
always be a conspicuous benchmark
in my life.

Worked on the staff when Dr. Gamble was there. He was truly a representative for the people of NC. He will surely be missed and I am so glad I had the opportunity of meeting and working with him.

I enjoyed working for Rep. Gamble when he was in the General Assembly. Very thoughtful, fair, and a kind man. We miss his type in the Assembly.
