John Halifax Obituary

John Francis Halifax

January 1, 1932 - January 7, 2024

Raleigh, North Carolina - John Francis Halifax, a devoted husband, beloved Dad and Grandpa/Great Grandpa, dear friend, and follower of Christ, went to be with his Savior Jesus on January 7, 2024.

John, commonly known by his nickname Jack, was born on January 1, 1932, in Savannah, GA. He was the son of the late Mildred Elizabeth Conklin Halifax and the late John Raymond Halifax. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Peggy Salter Halifax, his daughter Celeste Honaker (Bill), beloved grandchildren Katie Honaker and Nathan Honaker (Aubree) and great grandson William Halifax Honaker.

John graduated from Clemson University in June 1953 with a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering and a commission in the US Air Force. Upon graduation he went to work with Westinghouse Electric Corporation, serving in the USAF for two years during the Korean war, returning to Westinghouse upon the completion of his tour of duty. He had various assignments during his career with Westinghouse, primarily in the Southeast, retiring in 1993 as a Regional Vice President in Field Sales from Westinghouse and a successor company, ABB Power T&D Company.

He was a Registered Professional Engineer and a member of the Westinghouse retired group. His Irish heritage led to an active membership in the Hibernian Society of Savannah, GA. A member of St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church he also studied God's word in Bible Study Fellowship for many years.

He loved to golf, fish, spend time with his family and friends and visit his mountain home as often as he could. He was quite the dancer in his younger days and played drums in the Clemson band and a local jazz band.

John had a steadfast faith evident in the selfless life he lived. He was a man of prayer and would always follow up asking for updates on how the Lord was working. He lived a life of impact for Jesus evidenced by the love, care and concern he had for all those he encountered in his daily life.

A memorial mass celebrating his life will be held at St. Raphael the Archangel Church, 5801 Falls of the Neuse Rd, Raleigh, NC 27609, Friday January 19, 2024, at 11am followed by a reception at North Ridge Country Club, 6612 Falls of Neuse Rd., Raleigh, NC 27615. Interment will be at Bonaventure Cemetery, (Section L, Plot 680), in Savannah, Georgia with a graveside service on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at noon.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's memory to St Raphael the Archangel Church or Bible Study Fellowship International, Mount Vernon Baptist Church class (donations by check, mail c/o Mount Vernon Baptist Church, 7600 Falls of Neuse Rd, Raleigh, NC 27615)"

I had the honor to be able to give John a ride to and from Bible Study Fellowship on Monday nights when his neighbor Frank was unable. John always had something good to say about everyone.

Dear Celeste, and Family; I was your dad´s dental hygienist for several years, and seeing him was always a treat. He was always so bright and cheerful when he came in; we all enjoyed him, and will miss him enormously. So many prayers for your Family in your loss,
Love, Marsha Hovis
