Everett was 3 years older than I, but was very generous with his time and energy to keep me from "doing too much." About ten years ago I was working on the grounds around an old building our church owned, and he took on the thankless job of digging out a stump. He had a pickaxe and enough energy to work on it for several hours, until the pickaxe BENT. I got a hilarious picture of him holding the pickaxe in an American Gothic pose- it will forever be one of my favorite pictures and favorite memories. (He did get than cursed rootball out!)

Hi Anne,
This is Martha Adams, one of the Allgood cousins!
I have such fond memories of Everette being at multiple Allgood gatherings in and around Atlanta. He was always so Real! One of my fondest memories, that I will never forget , is his visit to the Hospice wing of Cone Hospital in Greensboro, to see my Dad, his Uncle John Allgood. He arrived one afternoon as Dad and I were recounting the timeline of Dad's life(at his request:)) We had gotten to a season of years that I really could not fill in for Dad. At that moment Everette walked in. After the excited greetings, Everett began to fill in the timeline of events that he remembered well. We then together finished the balance of Dad's life leading up to this day in Sept 2001. I know that the Lord sent him at that moment, and he was such a blessing to Dad and to me. I wish our lives were not so busy that we don't keep up well with cousins, but that day will fill my heart forever!
Everett was such a good man!
I have a wedding on the day of the memorial service but some of our family will be there.
Love and prayers, Ann to you and the family!!

Everette was a very caring man. He was generous with his time, caring, and gave very good advice, even when it wasn't what you wanted to hear. He made a difference to so many people at CUCC. We will miss him.

Annually for at least 3 years we would meet at Georgia Lemons' house on Mayview Road for a Lenten Study Group with Everette. Very meaningful get-togethers. I thought highly of his son as well. I shall always remember the story that big Everette needed a reference from our minister Cally Rogers Witte. Her reference went something like "I do not know Everette very well, but I know his son very well, and anyone who would father such a wonderful son must be wonderful himself."

One of my favorite people at Community UCC. I was thinking of him a few weeks ago, wondering about him. Funny, smart, generous with his time, protective, wise. I will miss him. I would love his counsel these days.

Everette was a source of continuing intelligence, kindness and humor every time I interacted with him. I was the academic adviser when his beloved wife, Ann, completed her Master of Education degree in Special Education at NC State. She was a mother of three young children, the executive director of a house with a high level of activities and pets and an acclaimed early childhood teacher. Somehow, she managed all of it while being a stellar graduate student and devoted partner to Everette. They created a home that was filled with interesting conversations around the issues that defined our advocacy for mutual causes and our shared disdain for the erosion of our common social values. Everette was deeply involved with the famous "Willie M. v. Hunt" class action law case in North Carolina brought on behalf of all behaviorally disturbed children who had been denied their constitutional rights to a public education as a result of being institutionalized against their will and neither educated nor provided with rehabilitation programming. We had spirited discussions around this particular case that dragged through years of litigation and multiple consent decrees. This case changed the practice of special education in the public schools of North Carolina and set an example to which other states looked for guidance. Everette possessed the ability to analyze situations from the perspectives of both the individual and the law. He always posed fair and penetrating questions that caused everyone to ponder what he had incisively asked. He was an exemplar of what is meant by public service. I treasure every moment I was privileged to be with any member of the Noland family. My heart aches for the loss of such an important force in their lives.
With affection, gratitude and respect.
