John Stahel Obituary

John Bryan Stahel, 35, of Venice, CA, formerly of Raleigh, died Friday, May 25, 2001. He was surfing at Venice Beach, CA, and drowned as a result of asthma complications. A native of Raleigh, he graduated from Broughton High School in 1984 and attended UNC Wilmington. At the time of his death he was a graphic designer for Goddard Claussen Advertising in Los Angeles, CA.
He is survived by his mother, Anne Williams Stahel of Raleigh; two brothers, Edward Paul Stahel III and his wife Melissa of Atlanta, GA, and Peter Grimes Stahel of Haleiwa, Hawaii; two sisters, Karen Stahel Riddell and her husband, Stephen of Atlanta, GA, Winn Stahel Surka and her husband, Aqil of Hartsville, SC; numerous nieces and nephews; and longtime girlfriend, Alyssa Boltjes of Venice, CA.
Preceding him in death was his father, Edward Paul Stahel, II.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 2, 2001, at Sacred Heart Cathedral. The family will be at 2536 Ashley Court following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The American Lung Association, 1323 Capital Blvd., Raleigh, NC 27603 or the SPCA of Wake County, 219-B Garner Business Court, Garner, NC 27529-4067.
