John Tew Obituary

Mr. John Wallace Tew, 88, of Dunn, died Monday morning at Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital. He was born September 5, 1921 in Sampson County, son of the late John Thomas and Bertha Denning Tew. Mr. Tew was preceded in death by his wife, Hettie Myrle Tew, four brothers, Fred, Dalton, William, and Thomas Tew, and two sisters, Bertha Godwin and Vida Smith. Mr. Tew and his wife were the owner’s and operators of Tew’s Body Shop which operated from 1964 until 2002. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Skinner & Smith Funeral Home by the Rev. Laura Johnson and Rev. Jeff Roberts. Burial will follow in Williford/Lee’s Chapel Church Cemetery. He is survived by a son, Wallace Ray Tew and wife, Jean H. of Lillington; a daughter, Ellen Tew Herring of Fayetteville; three grandchildren, Billy Ray Herring, Charles Wallace Tew, and Michael Vernon Herring; and four great-grandchildren, Cori Nicole Herring, Jonathan Edward Tew, Tabitha Reece Herring, and Kally Renee Herring. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Skinner & Smith Funeral Home. Online condolences may be directed to the family by visiting www.skinnerandsmith.com
