Although I only met him briefly on a few occasions, Monk would get talked about every now and then during a family gathering. You see, my dad, Percy Minton, was 4 days older than Monk and they grew up together in Lewiston. I wish I knew more about those years. Dad took me to meet Monk one day at the General Assembly, then I saw him again later when I was a page for a week in the House. Dad was also proud to take me to the dedication for the bridge. I just finished sorting through some more of my dad's things and came across a letter from Monk. Dad had just finished chairing the Hertford County 400th celebration. Monk sent him a very nice congratulatory letter for the successful production. I don't know the family, but I know that men like Monk are one of a kind and that your loss is great. My Dad's admiration and respect for Monk has been conveyed to me. May peace be with you, Arthur (Art) Minton

Diane, Bob, Pike, Vicki and family,
Monk was a sweet. generous and vibrant soul and loving family man. I thought the service was a lovely tribute to him and his life of service and great love for others. I'm so glad he passed away in the wee hours of the morning so peacefully into God's Kingdom and did not suffer. May his unconditional /selfless and steadfast love sustain each if you in the days ahead and may Gods abiding love comfort you and give you peace

We want you to know how sad we were to hear about Monk's passing. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and acquaintances around the state.
We remember how people from across North Carolina could stay in touch with each another at Monk's annual deer hunt. This historic gathering will be remembered as one of the largest annual deer hunts (that exceeded 700 guests). These memories will live on! Our thoughts are with you. Fondly, Beth Poston, Hu Poston, Peggy Poston
