Survived by his wife, Verna A. Tanner; a daughter and son-in-law, Amy T. and Mark D. Geil of Kennesaw, GA; a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph Speed Jones Tanner III and Megan E. Tanner of Richmond; hismother, Lorene H. Tanner of Palmer Springs; a brother, Jacob Thomas Tanner, Jr. of McLean, VA; two sisters, Nancy T. Mazzocchi of Cary, NC and Pett T. Brands of Taylorsville, NC; four grandchildren, Sarah Katherine, Hannah Danielle and Rebekah Ruth Geil and Joseph Speed Jones Tanner IV. Services Monday 11 a.m. at Bayleaf Baptist Church, 12200 Bayleaf Church Road, Raleigh, NC. Interment 3 p.m., Grace Episcopal Church Cemetery, Palmer Springs.
Memorial contributions to West End Baptist Church, 3420 Pump Road, Richmond, VA 23233 where his son is the current church planting pastor.
