Julian Ray "J.R." Hendricks, 71, passed away on Friday, September 7, 2018, in WakeMed Cary Hospital.
Mr. Hendricks was born in Richmond, VA on November 25, 1946, and was the son of the late Raymond and Edna Murphy Hendricks. A NC Highway Patrolman for many years, he later transferred to the State Information Processing Systems division, (now known as the Department of Information Technology). While working in this department, one of his favorite tasks was managing the computer systems for the Governor's offices. An Eagle Scout, and an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, he had been awarded "The Order of the Long Leaf Pine" by Governor James B. Hunt, Jr. Enjoyments in retirement included his hobby of being a ham radio operator (W4PQ).
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Pierce Hendricks.
Surviving are his daughter, Julie Anne Hendricks Ridenour (Richard); grandchildren, Rick, Ryan (Ashley), John, and Grace; brother-in-law, Dewitt Pierce (Peggy), and extended members of the Pierce and Byrum (Fahey and Rosa) families.
A graveside service will be conducted Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in the Pierce Family Cemetery, 196 Catherine Creek Road, Hobbsville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to UNC-TV (www.unctv.org), in recognition of his love for British TV.

Julie,
I was so saddened to read of your Dad's passing. He, and your Mom, were invaluable in the effort to save the Page-Walker Hotel, so very positive and supportive with a wonderful sense of humor. The photo of them is wonderful. They are always in my heart.
