Hillsborough, North Carolina - HILLSBOROUGH: Larry Wayne Melton, 83, passed away on Friday, February 3, 2023 at his home. Born in Orange County, the son of the late Woodrow Bowling Melton and Willie Cottle Melton. In addition to his parents, Mr. Melton was preceded in death by his brother, Woodrow "Dub" Melton and sister, Phillis Cone.
Larry was a polio survivor. He was the owner of Melton's Service Center in Durham for 35+ years with his brother, Dub. In his early years he was an active member of the Broken Anchor Boat Club. He helped the Civil Air Patrol as a ham operator and maintaining their equipment. Larry loved traveling in his Motor Coach across the country with his wife, spending the winter months in Florida with his Classic Car enthusiast friends.
Larry was an amazing man who never let his handicap get in his way.
Mr. Melton is survived by his wife, Lois Melton; daughter, Ameshia Melton Turlington and husband Brad; sister, Rachel Snead and husband Selvin; grandchildren, Austin Turlington, Holt Turlington; niece, Lisa Meeks and husband Billy; great-nephew, Chad Meeks and wife Jessica; great-niece, Katy Whitfield and husband Michael.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, February 7th at New Sharon United Methodist Church Cemetery, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church. Officiants will be Pastor Ken Tilley and Pastor Bill Hanks.
