Marian Zelasky Obituary

Marian L Zelasky

March 6, 1935 - May 8, 2024

Cary, North Carolina - Marian Lucille Zelasky (née Dechant) died after a brief illness on May 8, 2024 at 89 years of age at her home in Cary, NC.

Marian was born on March 6, 1935 on a Pennsylvania Dutch dairy farm in Lucinda, PA. The youngest of ten children, she was curious and possessed a lively mind. She was the first in her family to earn a college degree, a Bachelors of Art in Sociology, from Villa Maria College in Erie, PA. She met Thomas Zelasky at a Gannon dance in 1955. They married and raised five children together. She later went on to earn a Master's in Public Administration from Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA and had a career in the US Department of Education.

She had an insatiable thirst for learning and culture. She loved art, music, history, reading, and travel highlights included trips to Russia, Egypt, and several visits to Paris. Following her husband's death, she spent a few years living on St Simon's Island in Georgia, where they had vacationed. She then moved to North Carolina to be close to family. She attended lecture courses at Duke University, doted on her grandchildren, and formed special relationships with many extended family members.

The immediate family will hold a private memorial service to scatter her ashes at St. Simons Island, GA in the near future. Forever in our hearts, our dear Mom, Grandma, Sister and Aunt.
