Marilyn Glenn Obituary

Marilyn Lee Glenn

June 7, 1939 - May 19, 2024

Raleigh, North Carolina - Marilyn Lee Glenn passed away on May 19, 2024, surrounded by her loving husband, children, and grandchildren. Born in Phoenix, AZ on June 7, 1939, to Thomas and Augusta Hales, Marilyn and her parents moved to southern California when she was three years old.

Marilyn spent her childhood and young adult years in Pasadena. She had many fond memories of growing up including attending the opening day of Disneyland on July 17, 1955, a story she loved to recount to her family. Marilyn graduated from Pasadena High School and Pasadena City College, and it was there she met the love of her life Dinsmore (Denny) Glenn, Jr. during a class where they were seated alphabetically by last name. Marilyn and Denny were married February 1962 and spent the next 62 years building their life together. Marilyn attended San Diego State University where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. Her love of Pi Phi continued throughout her life, and Marilyn was a shining example of lifelong commitment and sisterhood. She was particularly proud to serve as the Alumnae Advisor to the University of California Irvine collegiate chapter of Pi Beta Phi. In her career, Marilyn spent time working in retail and later in property management. For most of her retirement, Marilyn and Denny resided in Palm Desert, CA and moved to Raleigh, NC in November 2020 where she lived for the remainder of her life.

Marilyn was loved dearly by her family and friends. She had a vibrant personality, was quick witted and happy to share her opinions. She enjoyed engaging in a variety of hobbies such as gardening, reading, and playing Mahjong and Mexican Train. Throughout life, she enjoyed traveling the world and was particularly fond of the Greek Islands and Santorini, Greece. Marilyn also had a very gentle and caring side, and she was especially fond of her pets, treating them as her children. Marilyn is survived by her husband, Denny, her daughter Jennifer and her husband Joe Netzel, her son Tres and his wife Kim Glenn, 11 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and her cats, Hunter and Tumbles.

The family would like to offer special thanks to Chiffon, her care manager, and her wonderful care team of Jane, Mulu, Wanda, Rakey, Rbika and Gloria for their dedicated and loving care of Marilyn over the last several years.

Her celebration of life is scheduled for Thursday, May 23, 2024 at Waltonwood at Lake Boone Trail, Raleigh, NC at 12pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to Alzheimer's research at Alzheimer's Association (alz.org).

May God keep you in His loving care.
