Mickey Segal was one of my mother’s closest friends and probably the woman she admired most in this world. My mother (Eleanor Handleman), loved Mickey so much and was always so happy when she spent time with her. My brother was born mentally challenged as was Mickey’s daughter Debby. Both women refused to believe that these children would never advance in life and gave them their all. Mickey wrote the book, “Run Away Little Girl” about Debbie. Mickey accomplished so much in her life, always thinking of others. This book helped other parents deal with the challenges of raising a mentally and physically challenged child. In spite of being born into a financially affluent family she worked harder than anyone my mother ever knew. They both gave it all to help others with mentally challenged children. But Mickey had four other children as well, worked full time at the University school and later on was ill herself. My mother said the only thing she couldn’t give up was her coffee. Sorry I am late writing this, because I just saw her obituary. I send my love to her children and just wanted them to know how loved and pretty much worshipped by my mother. I think she loved Mickey second only to my father. Bless her .

I had the pleasure of working with Marilyns daughter Wendy at novas first mommy and me program in the early 80’s. My daughter Jennifer was friends with Wendy’s Jenifer and I have good memories of them playing together. Marilyn (Mickey) was a wonderful human being who changes so many lives!

I am deeply saddened to hear of Mickey's passing-I was her cousin on my mother's side (Mickey's grandfather Sam Mailman was my mother's uncle and I am indebted to her father for his kindness and encouragement-he was so proud of Mickey and justly so). I last saw Mickey perhaps 25 years back when I stayed over at her house but she has continued to be an inspiration and exemplar. I so admired her achievements as an advocate for children with developmental problems, her creativity, her determination, and her grace. My heartfelt condolences to all of you and may her memory be a blessing in your sorrow.

Dear Wendy and Family,
I am deeply saddened by the passing of my dear friend. I found out only today and want you to know that I loved her. The years I spent as her secretary were wonderful. Mickey was a loving friend whose genuine care for children and their families is unsurpassed still. Mickey treated me, as well as Heather, like part of her family. God certainly welcomed a special spirit home on November 19th.
With my deepest sympathy,
Suzy Gregory

I am so sorry to hear of Mickey's passing... I loved her. She was always so nice, as is her daughter Wendy. She was a truly nice person. I just saw on Roni's FB page of the service for Mickey... I will be out of town and sorry to miss that. My heart goes to all of us who knew her because we all lost with her passing.

Mickey was a truly amazing woman. Her wisdom, creativity, intellect, and generosity were an inspiration and a model to so many of us. Her mentoring and friendship over the twelve years that we worked together were deeply meaningful to me. She had a profoundly positive impact on thousands of children and families in many places, Tampa/Hillsborough County, Florida among them. Mickey will be missed, but her legacy lives on. My thoughts and prayers are with Wendy, Betty and all of the family.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. I loved Mickey and was very blessed to have been mentored by her for over 20 years. It was a pleasure and a privilege to work with her and to meet and know many of you, during those years. She was a great leader, a great lady, and a loving source of guidance for the Early Childcare Field in Florida. She will be missed, but she will be remembered.

Dr. Segal showed me the light. She mentored and guided my education as a preschool teacher. With loving encouragement she nurtured me to nurture others. She made a big difference to the children and families of this world. I am blessed to have been in her path.

Dear Wendy,
Fran and I were deeply saddened at the news of your Mother's passing. It is truly the end of an era!
As you know my Father Ben Tobin and your Grandfather Abe Mailman were good friends and did many charitable acts that surely improve the lives of many.
In my view, Mickey, inherited that role and did so much to continue in his steps. You are doing the same and I know Abe would be so proud of you.
Fran and I send our deepest condolences and love to you and your entire family. We will miss her.
