Mark C. Phelps
June 3, 1943 - April 25, 2012

Mark C. Phelps went peacefully to be with his Savior the Lord Jesus Christ on April 25, 2012. Born in Rochester, New York on June 3, 1943, Mark is the son of the late Jane M. Phelps and C. Curtis Phelps. Mark spent his first 5 years in Rome, N.Y. before moving to Brownville, NY and graduating from General Brown High School in 1962. After spending 4 years in the U.S. Navy in Bethesda Maryland, Mark returned to Brownville and graduated from Jefferson Community College. Mark worked for Stebbins Engineering of Watertown N.Y. prior to spending 5 years at Norwich Pharmaceutical Company in Norwich NY. Then a research position became available at Raleigh North Carolina with the Chemical Industry Institute of Toxicology. Mark worked for CIIT for 8 years and then spent 23 years at Duke University at Durham, N.C before retiring as Import and Export Coordinator.
Mark is survived by his devoted wife of 12 years, Jeannie Robbins Phelps. Others surviving are two daughters and their husbands, Kristen and David Weil of Durham, NC. and Carrie and Ritchie Robbins of Chesterfield, VA. Survivors also include three grandchildren, Nathan Weil and Hayley and Emily Robbins. Mark is also survived by two sisters, Karen Phelps of Rockville, MD. and Barbara Gault of Watertown, N.Y.
The family wishes to thank Duke Home Care and Hospice for their invaluable service and support.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mark's name may be made to Triangle Presbyterian Church 5001 Tudor Place, Durham NC 27713.
Visitation will be held following the service at Triangle Presbyterian Church, 5001 Tudor Place, Hwy 54, Durham N.C. The service will be held on Saturday April 28, 2012 at 11:00 a.m.
