Martha Page Obituary

Martha Gage Page

Burlington

Martha Gage Page, 84, formerly of Chapel Hill, NC, passed away at Hospice House in Burlington, NC, on September 16, 2018.

Martha was born on April 8, 1934 in Battle Creek, Mich., to Walter Harriman Gage and Jessie Burch Gage. She graduated from the Emma Willard School in Troy, N.Y., and then Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts, where she studied music and art. She married Jesse W. Page III on July 30, 1955, in Battle Creek, and they lived primarily in Chapel Hill, Swansboro and Pittsboro, NC. Jesse's died in 2012.

Martha was known for her artistic talents as a pianist, piano teacher, knitter and artist. She was always willing to try a new endeavor. Anything she took on, she did with all her heart and did well. She was a terrific equestrian, loved having her dogs with her and was a great gardener.

She loved competition and challenges. Her outlet for both were riding horses, playing tennis, sailing, complex knitting, and playing both bridge and cribbage. She knitted incredible sweaters, blankets, gloves, socks and even a "Zoo" of animals, which she bestowed with love on each of her grandchildren. She could knock out a NY Times Sunday crossword puzzle in no time. She was devoted to her Christian faith and loved being an active part of her bible study group, which started at Chapel Hill Bible Church and has continued to meet for more than 30 years.

Martha was a wonderful wife and mother. She is predeceased by her husband, Jesse W. Page III, and her brother, Walter H. Gage Jr., and is survived by her children, Rebecca Brugger of Ephrata, PA; John Page of St. John's Creek, GA; Mary Block of Cary, NC; Laura Walke of Huntsville, AL; Caroline Barnwell of Burlington, NC; her nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at The May-Foley Chapel at Twin Lakes Community on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 10:00 a.m.

A graveside service will be held at Bethesda Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Aberdeen, NC on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 3:00 p.m.

Dear family, I am so sorry for your loss. May you find peace and comfort in the biblical words of 2 Thessalonians 2:16,17 ...God our Father [...] comforts your hearts. I hope that these words help you during these hard times.
