Dear Theresa, Vince, Kelley, Colleen, and Nolan,

We were out of town when the news of Michael's death must have been published in the paper and the Church bulletin. We saw Kelley last night and she told us about your loss. We are so sorry we could not share in the funeral Mass with all of you. I know that your strong family ties will somehow help you cope during this most difficult time. Our prayers are with you all. I will always remember how Michael was so full of energy and such a great little friend to Nathan when they were preschoolers. God Bless you all.

Farewell Backpack Dude:
You inspired us to be better people with your infectious energy, your playful and outgoing personality, and your zest for life. You loved the outdoors and passed that along to others including me. You found that helping others was its own reward. You were great with adults and small children alike, a true reflection of your personality and your upbringing.

I'll miss your bright smile and outstretched hand ready to to greet whoever was around.

I feel so fortunate to spend as much time as I did with you. You will always have special place in my heart.

Please look down and pray for us poor souls on earth, especially for your loving and wonderful parents (Vince & Theresa) and your siblings (Kelley, Colleen and Nolan).

Be at peace!

Mike will be still living in our souls. His joy of living, his smile and the look in his eyes are not easy to forget. A gifted and intelligent young man, with a caring and sensitive heart, well mannered and considerate, Mike defined himself as a person and made his family and teachers proud of him. I was fortunate to get to know him as my "Physics with Topics" student. He shared with me memories about his summer backpack trips, I was happy to witness both his academic successes and him falling in love at NCSSM. He did not get to go visit Brazil, as he intended to... Still in shock and regretful that we have lost him ...
