Michael Angelo Consolo
September 25, 1949 - August 12, 2023
Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina - Michael Angelo Consolo (Mike), age 73, loving husband of Maureen Consolo, passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2023, at their home in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina.
Michael was the beloved and first-born son of the late and Honorable Carmen and Helen Consolo of Northfield, Ohio.
A true Patriot, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy. His duty as a Radioman, readied him for what would become a storied career in the communications industry. After completion of his military service, he set off on a path which began in the basement of the Keith Building in Cleveland, for a small operation named MCI. Eventually, that regional operation grew into a global powerhouse. His rise through the ranks mirrored that of the organization and he was always grateful and appreciative of all, in propelling his and its success. Mike retired as MCI Director of Operations-Network Management Center.
An avid golfer, that somehow seemed to always hover in that "nice 9" handicap range, thoroughly enjoyed the competition and fellowship of everyone at Bentwinds Country Club, even chalking up yet another victory in a team event a weekend ago.
A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend; if he was in your life you were blessed by his mischievous smile, loyalty, and big heart. His stoic nature and attention to detail ensured a calm and collected ease, regardless of the situation and its complexity.
Michael is survived by his cherished sons; Paul Anthony Consolo of Charleston, SC, James Allen Consolo (Kelly) of Morehead City, NC; step-daughter, Ensign Jaci Latz of San Diego, CA (USN); and step-son, John Latz of Chantilly, VA.
He also leaves behind his siblings; Linda Consolo of Stow, OH and Charles Consolo of Naples, FL; living grandchild, Kaitlin; nieces; Kori Lin Adamcek, Celine and Camille Consolo; aunts; Carol Consolo of Solon, OH and Carol (Sam) of Pepper Pike, OH; cousin, Mary Ann Landino (Tony) of Parma, OH.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Mary Jean Consolo (nee Mahovlic).
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 18, 2023 at Saint Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, 6280 Apex Barbecue Road, Apex, NC. Internment at Saint Mary Magdalene Church Columbarium, Apex, NC at a later date.
