Sharpsburg, Georgia - Michael John McDonald, 66, of Sharpsburg, Georgia, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2025, following a long illness courageously fought.
Born in the District of Columbia, on October 28, 1958, Mike was the eldest of six children and a cherished son, brother, father, and friend. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Keera, and also leaves behind his brothers Mark (Mary), Matt (Gigi), and Marty (Sara); sisters Zara and Molly; numerous nephews, a niece, two grandnephews, and a grandniece, and wife Wei. Mike was predeceased by his father Gene and mother Barbara.
Mike was a free spirit and an individualist, wholly unafraid to follow his own path. Mike was a curious, supremely intelligent and adventurous soul.
Mike attended Epsom College in England before earning his bachelor's degree in economics from Duke University and later an MBA from the University of North Carolina.
Over the course of his career, Mike worked in strategic and international leadership roles with several respected manufacturing companies, including Milliken & Company, Southwire, and Mannington. He excelled at building relationships across cultures, guiding teams with integrity, and approaching challenges with a mix of intellect and creativity.
Mike's adventurous side found expression on two wheelshe was an avid motorcyclist who relished the open road and the freedom it represented. At the same time, he cultivated a lifelong practice of meditation, seeking understanding and presence in his world.
He will be deeply missed, yet his spirit, humor, and love will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
His family will convene for a celebration of Mike's life in the coming months. He is to be interred next to his parents at St Matthew Catholic Church in Durham, NC at a later date.
