Pamela Denning Obituary

Pamela Denning
April 27, 1960 - October 4, 2022
Riverview, Florida - Dr. Pamela Faye Denning passed away on October 4, 2022, after a brief illness, surrounded by those that loved her most. She was born on April 27, 1960, in Raleigh to Joyce Arnold Denning and William Stanley Denning. Pamela is survived by her father; her daughter, Melissa Denning Sevigny (John Schmerling); sisters, Lisa Carol Denning and Michelle Denning; nieces, Holley Bridges Monroe (Kevin) and Ashley Casson Cobb (Jeff); nephews, Bryan William Bridges, Phillip Michael Casson, and Nicholas Ryan Casson. She is also survived by her cherished grandsons, Brenner Reade Sevigny and Bryson William Bridges.
Pamela was a giving and kind soul who never met a stranger. She dedicated her life to making the lives of children and families better through her advocacy and work as a Social Worker. Nothing made her happier than spending time with her family, especially her grandsons. She was the absolute best Nana Banana ever.
A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, October 22, 2022, at Bright Funeral Home 405 S. Main Street, Wake Forest. Visitation will begin at 1:00pm with the service immediately following at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Note in the Pocket: 9650 Strickland Rd., Suite 103-168, Raleigh, NC 27615 or noteinthepocket.org.

Dr. Denning was my academic advisor in my undergrad program. She believed in me, especially when I didn't. She worked with me when I obsessed about little things and never made me feel like a burden or that I was doing something wrong. She was more than just an academic advisor, but a life advisor too. For the years that I was there, she was EVERYTHING. Everything I am today as a human, a mother, and a social worker is because of her and the love and care she showed to me. I'm thankful that I was able to tell her this when she could hear me and she was able to see all that she helped me to accomplish. I am heartbroken to hear that she's no longer with us but comforted to know that I'm not the only baby social worker that she launched from the nest at Shaw. I owe her everything.

I worked with and shared an office with Pam at Shaw University in the early 2000s.
She was a wonderful person to be with - a joyful, funny, hardworking and intelligent friend. We shared many laughs and successes together. She was a great leader and comrade. She made a differnece for our students and the program we worked for.
