Philip Zimmer Obituary

Philip Clark Zimmer

Garner

Philip Clark Zimmer (Phil), 67, died at home on May 8, 2015. Born in Bethesda, Maryland, to the late Col. Andrew and Lorraine Holsinger Zimmer, Phil was an accountant and self-professed expert at all things.

A handsome guy with a winning smile, Phil enjoyed cheering on the N.C. State Wolfpack and Washington Redskins and spending time with fellow beer tap monitors at his favorite local establishments, including Logan's Steakhouse, Aversboro Restaurant, and Locked & Loaded Bar & Grill.

An Eagle Scout and graduate of Georgetown University, Phil served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps from 1967 to 1970. He started Zimmer Tax & Accounting Service in the early nineties, serving many people in the Garner community. In February 1999, he opened Heather Park Child Development Center with his wife Hilda and step daughter Kelli Bradley and maintained an active role until his death.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 26 years, Hilda Martin Zimmer; son, Philip Lee Zimmer and his wife Anne of Campbell, California; step children, Kelli Kirby Bradley, Barry Kirby and Leah Kirby, all of Garner; grandchildren, Andrew and Emily Zimmer of California; step grandchildren, Blair, Abbie and Evan Bradley, and Tyler and Jordan Kirby, all of Garner; brother, Buddy Zimmer and his wife Carmeline of Virginia Beach, Virginia; brother, David Zimmer and his wife Nancy of Portsmouth, Virginia; and niece and nephews, Bretta Lewis, Matthew and Benjamin Zimmer, and Joshua and Jonathan Ray.

He is predeceased by his parents and son Robert Thomson Zimmer.

His family is extremely grateful to the wonderful people at Transitions LifeCare and numerous friends and loved ones for their caring support.

Visitation is Monday, May 11, from 6:00 -8:00 pm at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 12, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's, Mother of the Church in Garner, followed by a graveside service at Montlawn Memorial Park.

I remember Phil in high school...of course knew him as Buddy's brother. He was a "good guy." I am sorry to hear of his passing. Heart felt condolences to his wife, Hilda, his immediate & extended family and friends. God bless.

Phil Was not only my accountant, but a good friend since 2000. I will miss his ready laugh, his love of life and his "guy" sense of humor (often times exhibited in his e-mails). May you rest in peace my friend. I will miss you!
