Reca Frances Tant Smith

Reca Frances Tant Smith of Raleigh died peacefully Wednesday, December 3, 2014. She was born August 30, 1927 to the late Howard and Reca Tant of Franklin County, NC.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, C. Gilbert Smith. Frankie is survived by her son, Mark Bell (Susan), daughter, Melanie Weaver (the late Jim Weaver); grandchildren, David Bell, Zackary Weaver and Megan Weaver; six great-grandchildren; brothers, William Earl Tant and Ronnie Tant; sisters, Dot Bissette and Carolyn Register; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by step-daughters, Margie Hammond (Brad), Linda Smith, Debbie Matthews (Tony), Tristin Taylor and their children John Ferrell, Dustin King, Daniel Cooper, Joshua James, Olivia Wilder, Dakota Romano and their four great-grandchildren.

"Frankie" as she was known to friends and family came to Raleigh to attend Kings Business College after high school. She later spent many fulfilling years working with Gilbert as he built a successful accounting firm. She loved the beach, deep-sea fishing and traveling with family and treasured friends.

Visitation will be Monday, December 8, from 6:00-8:00pm at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh, NC. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 9, 1pm at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel. A private committal service will take place at Raleigh Memorial Park.

The family is most grateful for the love, prayers and support offered on her behalf. Special thanks to her friend and caregiver, Sandy Johnson and the exceptional staff at Transitions LifeCare in Raleigh.

My heart goes out to the family of "Frankie" and Gilbert Smith. I shall miss that "Frankie Smile" that I so often encountered when I ran into her around town. My deepest sympathy to the family for both Gilbert and Frankie were "solid gold" friends.
