I was also a childhood friend of Reuben and am very sad to hear of his death. I regreat having missed the opportunity to reconnect with him. My memories of Reuben are playing softball in the Rowe's yard, or kick the can and acorn wars on highland place. He was always a great sport and fun to be with. In later years we reconnected because he was a friend of my husband, Thomas Fricke, and in his freshman dorm at Stanford. We both send our condolences to his mother, Mary Ellen, Steve and Melissa. I'm sure my brothers and sisters, Garrett, Nick, Meg and Sarah will want to send their sympathy as well.

I was a childhood friend and Reuben's next door neighbor growing up in DC. Thinking about Reuben brings back memories of our wonderful neighborhood and what a good place and time it was to grow up. Being a very lively kid, Reuben was certainly at the center of all our adventures. For example, I remember the astounded look on his father's face when a water balloon that Reuben threw at me hit his Dad instead as he came out of his house. (That did not go over well with Mr. Clark!) Knowing Reuben's virtues of friendliness, honesty, responsibility and kindness as a kid, I am sure that these only grew greater in the man.
My deepest sympathy to his Mom, Mary Ellen, and Steve and Melissa, and of course to his wife and children.

Reuben was a great citizen and an outstanding attorney. He assisted me with some complex legal issues with great strategy and professionalism. He was respected as a gentleman with outstanding integrity by our entire leadership team at Coastal Federal Credit Union. He suffered a long time with a very difficult disease that no one should have to endure. My God bless the entire family with fond memories of your good times together.

Reuben was a kind, intelligent and caring person who is gone so much too soon. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to spend time with him over the years, to be challenged by debates and revitalized by shared laughter. I hope all of you are comforted by many memories of your own in this time of loss.

I am so glad I had a chance to see all of you at least relatively recently. Reuben was always a very popular visitor to Portland when we were kids. I think all the girls in our neighborhood had crushes on him!
I wish I could be with you on Friday and hope we can see one another again soon. Please give Mary Ellen an extra long hug from me. Love to all. Louise

Reuben spent a summer as a law clerk with Appalred here in eastern Kentucky, when I served as Director. I appreciated his keen mind and his caring for our low income clients; so I was proud to learn of his accomplishments in the low income housing field in Pennsylvania. I was gratified to learn of his continuing humanitarian work over the years after he moved to Raleigh. We met a few years ago by accident in Whole Foods in Raleigh where my wife and I were visiting with my brother and sister who lived there, and were able to "catch up." I admired Reuben from afar, and my wife and I send sincere condolences.

Reuben enjoyed life and family and would want this to continue for all whose sadness for his passing seems too difficult to bear. My condolences to you all. Psalms 62:11,12.
