Cedar Point, North Carolina - Robert N. "Bob" Doster, Sr., 88, of Cedar Point passed away on Thursday, November 25. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Wright and Alma McLamb, one brother George Franklin and wife of 54 years Mary Stephenson Doster.
Bob was a veteran of the Korean War. He served in the Army as an administrative specialist. Bob was honorably discharged in 1954. In 1960 Bob began his career with the North Carolina State Employees Credit Union where he worked for 36 years. When he started with the credit union as a book keeper there were only 13 employees. During his tenure with the NCSECU Bob was extremely instrumental in their growth. Bob worked his way up to senior vice president of finance when he retired in 1996. Today the credit union is the second largest in the United States.
Bob was also active in his community clubs and civic organizations. Bob was president of the Cary Jaycees, chairman of the American Legion, president of Ducks Unlimited and president of Friends Retreat, LTD.
Bob was known as a "big hearted" contrarian by his employees, friends and family.
A funeral service will be held Monday, November 29, at 2 p.m. at Skinner & Smith Funeral Home by Rev. Freddie Braswell. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
He is survived by his son Robert Neal Doster, Jr.
