We just learned of Bob's death today (12/13) through our son, Tim. You have been very dear friends and we are saddened by your loss. We remember Bob as a wonderful, kind and devoted human being, and a very special friend. We would like to talk with you and will try to find your phone number. Our prayers, thoughts and affection are with you,

I am a convert to the Catholic faith, and Bob was one of the main people to guide me through this conversion. I will be forever grateful for the kindness he showed me during RCIA at Our Lady of Loudes, 1998-99. I was sorry to learn of his death today, but I know he is in heaven, in fullness with Christ our Lord. May God bless Bob's family during their time of sorrow.

On behalf of the NCSU Libraries, I extend our deepest sympathy to the family. So many of us got to know Bob through his use of and support for the library. We saw that he was a great human being and a teacher loved by his students.
We and I will miss him dearly.

Dear Lynda and Family:
Bob was a dear and faithful friend who taught me a great deal about perseverance in this life and the spiritual life. He navigated through his recent set backs by living out the Faith more vigorously and thereby helping others to grow in their faith. His attitude of gratitude and joy was always inspiring and something to aspire to. It gives me great joy to think of him resting in the bosom of his best friend and Lord, Jesus, asking all his questions that our answers never could quite satisfy. May his charity and hope for mankind live on through those of us who knew and loved him.
May you be comforted by family and friends in this time of sudden sorrow.

I befriended Bob within the last two years periodically seeing him at daily Mass, Sunday Mass and events at OLL. What an inspiration he was exemplifiying dignity in the face of suffering, knowlgeable yet humble in sharing Truths of the Catholic faith and always remembering Jesus and Mary, Our Holy Mother, Saints and Angels. Eternal rest grant unto Bob O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon Bob. Through the Mercy of God may Bob rest in peace. Amen.

Dr. Hambourger was an impressive scholar who was willing to minister to "the least of these" at Polk Correctional Institution. I will miss his kind demeanor and wealth of knowledge. May God's presence comfort all who loved him.

Bob and I first met when I came to Our Lady of Lourdes in late April of 2009. He would always take time to say hello and chat with me. His cheerfulness was contagious. I was unaware of the challenges he faced as he never spoke of them. Bob was truly a man of great strength -- exceeded only by his gentleness. Now he is surrounded by "... the gentleness and clemency of Christ." 2 Corinthians 10:1

Bob was my adoration partner when we began Perpetual Adoration in the old Parish Office Building at Our Lady of Lourdes. We spent many hours together in silence (from 2:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m.) From simply observing Bob during these times, he demonstrated to me the True meaning of Perpetual Adoration.
I still do an hour or two at the new Chapel, but I always think of Bob and where it all began for me. He rose from a convert to become a pillar of OLL and, indeed,, the whole Diocese.
Eternal rest grant unto our Brother Bob, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Dear Lynda, Elizabeth, Michael and Timothy,
I have been so blessed to be a part of Bob's life these past several years and to be able to walk with him through his illness with Lymphoma. Bob has never given up hope in spite of much pain and suffering. He loved all of you very much and in frequent conversations with him, you were always on his mind and in his heart. His patience, compassion and love for others will always remain in my memory. He taught me much about our human condition but more importantly about patience and suffering. He will be greatly missed but I know his faith well after many hours of speaking with him. He loved Jesus deeply and showed that by the way he extended Him to others in kindness, unselfishness, concern and empathy. I know that he is with his Creator and happy beyond our comprehension.
God bless you all,
Jacques Mistrot M.D.

My deepest sympathy goes out to the family. Bob and Bob Olson were my teachers in RCIA in 1998-99 when I was received into the Church at Our Lady of Lourdes. I so much appreciated all of Bob's instruction and wisdom and his kindness. God Bless to all and I will remember Bob and all of you in my prayers.
