Robert Loftis Obituary

Robert "Bob" Odom Loftis, Jr.

August 5, 1942 - October 23, 2023

Buies Creek, North Carolina - Robert "Bob" Odom Loftis, Jr.

August 5, 1942 - October 23, 2023

Buies Creek, North Carolina - Robert "Bob" Odom Loftis, Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and esteemed educator, passed away on October 23, 2023, after a valiant battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was born in Birmingham, Alabama, but his formative years were spent in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Bob was a dedicated and respected tenured Professor at Campbell University School of Law, where he shared his knowledge and passion for the law with students for an impressive 40 years. His commitment to education extended beyond the classroom, leaving a lasting impact on the legal community.

He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Florida Atlantic University and pursued his Doctorate of Law from Emory University. His dedication to excellence was further exemplified as a licensed Certified Public Accountant. His unwavering commitment to legal education was recognized through various accolades, including The Order of the Coif.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Juanita Bolton Loftis, and his beloved children: Debi Loftis of Duluth, Georgia; Robert (Sarah) Loftis of Old Hickory, Tennessee. He was also a proud grandfather to Adam and Alexander Loftis of Old Hickory, Tennessee. Bob is remembered by his brothers, Richard M. Loftis of Opelika, Alabama, and Stephen H. Loftis of Ocala, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Loftis Sr. and Ruth McLester Loftis.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the Harnett County Sheriff's Department, as well as all the assisting counties, first responders, and search and rescue teams who tirelessly worked to help locate Bob when he had wandered away from home. We are forever grateful for them returning him to us safely. Special thanks also go to Transitions LifeCare for their compassionate assistance and care during this challenging time.

The family has been overwhelmed with the outpouring of love, concern, and support for Bob in his final days from the surrounding community.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to The Alzheimer's Association at https://act.alz.org

In honor of his memory:

Do Not Ask Me to Remember

Do not ask me to remember,

Don't try to make me understand,

Let me rest and know you're with me,

Kiss my cheek and hold my hand.

I'm confused beyond your concept,

I am sad and sick and lost.

All I know is that I need you

To be with me at all cost.

Do not lose your patience with me,

Do not scold or curse or cry.

I can't help the way I'm acting,

Can't be different though I try.

Just remember that I need you,

That the best of me is gone,

Please don't fail to stand beside me,

Love me 'til my life is done.
