Robert "Bob" James Page
January 28, 2022
Chapel Hill, North Carolina - Bob Page passed away on January 28, 2022, at age 92, leaving his three children daughter, Kendall Hill Page and spouse, Melinda "Mendy" Childress, daughter, Katherine Porter DoBaTien and spouse, Jacques DoBaTien and son, Nicholas Whitley "Whit" Page. His wife Lillyan "Luke" Lee Gordon Hill Page predeceased him in 2018.
Bob was born to Katherine "Kay" Page and Frank Page. He grew up in New York until he traveled by bus to a southern university located in Chapel Hill where he met Luke. At the time he was active in the local chapter of Phi Delta Theta fraternity and Luke, a member of Delta Delta, Delta sorority. They met at a Phi Delta Theta mixer and he told his friends "She is the prettiest girl I have ever seen!".
He served in the Navy after undergraduate school while stationed in Adak, Alaska. Upon returning to Chapel Hill, he and Luke married. The couple's love for Chapel Hill rooted them to the town where they raised their three children and gave back to the community through their volunteer work as well in their development of communities.
Bob was instrumental in the building of the YMCA and Women's Center. He continued his support for Phi Delta Theta where he served as a leading member of the Board interfacing with the actives, raising money for improvements to the house, managing staff, finance and creating a role model for other UNC fraternities. His ongoing work at the fraternity house continued well into his late 80's. He loved Phi Delta Theta and cultivated many lasting relationships through his affiliation with the chapter.
He established a law practice and was later joined by his daughter Kendall and a title company in later years with his son Whit. Bob loved his life with Luke as they were a positive force in Chapel Hill, steadfast mentors to their children as well as wonderful relationship role models. The two of them were supportive of their children on every level, encouraging them to do and be the best at what they loved, and to follow their passions. When the women's tennis team and the men's golf team had no transportation to away matches, Bob and Luke provided their station wagon to the coach to get Porter and Whit and their teammates to a game. When the women's basketball team had worn and unusable balls or the women's softball team had no uniforms, they provided them. They never missed a child's game, and many times Kendall, Porter and Whit were all scheduled to play on the same day. They made it to each.
Bob and Luke were dedicated individuals to themselves as a couple, their children and their community. They cultivated a strong and connected family who remain very close. His departure is a profound loss which leaves a hole in the hearts of his children but his loving impact on each of them and their spouses endures.
Funeral services and celebration of his life will be held at The Chapel of The Cross in Chapel Hill on Saturday April 23, at 11:00 am.
